February Favourites 2015

Saturday, 28 February 2015

I rarely try enough stuff to warrant a monthly favourites post, but this month I've really been loving some new stuff in my routine. The first thing I've been loving is the real techniques buffing brush. I love the airbrushed but still natural finish this gives my foundation. I also use it to press some powder into my skin in the areas where I want my makeup to really last. Foundation routine post to follow featuring this brush. Next I've been loving the Aveeno skin relief moisturiser. If you've been around a while you'll know that aveeno moisturisers are by far my favourites. This is the first time i've tried this particular one, and I have to say despite the fact that it smells quite similar to chicken feed, I love it. Highly recommend it if you have extremely sensitive skin & eczema. Finally I've been loving the Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Bricks. These are absolutely gorgeous. If you're after that Victoria's secret skin kissed glowing look (lets face it who isn't?), then these are definitely worth a look. I've also been loving using the lightest shade as a highlighter across the tops of the cheekbone, it gives a gorgeous glow.

What are your favourites?

A Smoothie Recipe

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

I have never done a food related post on here which is weird considering I cook/bake so much. If you follow me on twitter you'll know that i've been trying to eat a lot healthier of late. I think smoothies are so great because they're super healthy and really filling at the same time. This is one I made and I really love.

You'll need:

  • Frozen Blueberries
  • Frozen Strawberries
  • Frozen Raspberries
  • A banana
  • Unsweetened Almond milk.

I didn't put any quantities because it depends on much you want to make/how thick you like it. I did add in more blueberries compared to strawberries/raspberries. I also add about 250ml almond milk. The frozen berries means it'll be lovely and cold and theres no need to add ice which will only water down your smoothie.

Will you try this?

Best Beauty Bargains

You don't have to pay a shit-ton of money to get nice, good quality makeup. I've bought a lot of 'drugstore' makeup, and these are some of my favourites which are on par with some of the higher end stuff I've tried.

I've been using the Sleek face form palette for ages now and it's definitely a staple in my makeup routine. They retail for €12.99 in boots and for getting a contour, blush and highlight of such high quality it's great value. The contour shade is great even for someone who is V pale like me. Its available in 4 different shades so there really is something for everyone.

The natural collection are an amazing brand with great stuff at dirt cheap prices. I use so many of their products that I wrote a whole post on it here. My personal fave though is their blushes, the shade I have here is rosy glow. They're nicely pigmented without being too much. They last all day too and this shade in particular gives a really nice natural glow. Again for €2.50 you can't really go wrong.

My favourite lip liners are up their with my mac ones, dare I say I prefer them to mac ones? They're from essence and I'm not sure of the exact price but i'm pretty sure they're no more than €2.50 a piece. These pencils are lovely and really creamy which makes for a really good application. My personal favourite is the shade 06 satin mauve, its the perfect kind of 90's mauve shade, i love it and wear it all the time. Compared to the mac pencils these apply really nice and smooth and don't drag on the lips whatsoever.

Artistry Signature Colour Lipstick* | First Impressions

Wednesday, 18 February 2015

Recently I was sent the Artistry signature colour lipstick in the shade 'coral sunrise'. The outer cardboard packaging is somewhat average and does not co-ordinate at all with the actual packaging of the lipstick. Thankfully the inside of the box has instructions on how to open the tube. You have to twist it a certain way, but the packaging looks and feels very expensive and luxurious. I had it around my mam and she actually commented on how pretty the packaging is. The colour is not something I would wear everyday personally as I tend to wear more berry colours. It is going to be very pretty for spring/summer. These retail for around the €25 mark. I would love to try more of these in different colours because even though they are quite pricy they are great quality.

*This was sent to me for my consideration however i'm a not bullish*t sort of person so you know this is as honest as it gets*

A Run Down On Blogging ft Get Rich Blogging By Zoe Griffin

Saturday, 14 February 2015

A while back you may recall I did a what i've been reading lately post, I spoke about this book 'Get Rich Blogging by Zoe Griffin. I did talked a lot more in depth about it in that post if you would like to know more about it.

Something to consider if you're starting a blog is what you want from it. Secondly is if you would like to turn it into something more than a hobby. Personally i'm a very business minded person, its my top subject in school and is a career path I will probably pursue. This is where the book comes in. It teaches you how to think of your blog as a business and how to make it better, if its not something you're used to doing then I highly recommend giving this a read.

I have a list of tips that I would wish someone had told me when I had started a blog:

1- Get a decent theme/template for your blog- You can get some of these for free online or you can get amazing ones online from websites like Etsy. Thats where mine is from.

2- Photography- It doesn't matter if they're taken on an iPhone or DSLR camera. Once they have decent light and a nice background/layout you're golden. I'm not going to lie a good camera makes for better photo's but its not essential  when you first start up, work towards a better camera.

3- Consistency is key- If you upload once a week for 3 weeks and not for 2 months, you can't expect to get anywhere. I got very frustrated when my blog was getting nowhere but once I started uploading posts once/twice weekly and kept it up, thats when I started getting somewhere. Staying organised is very important.

4- Social media is V important- Make sure you have all your social media's displayed on your blog (mine are in the sidebar) and USE them. Tweet out the link of your latest post at peek times etc. Using a photo also helps bring in views.

Now I realise I am far from one of irelands top bloggers, but I have been doing this for a while and I thought why not share what I have learnt, it might help someone. Once last piece of advice I would share is that always keep up your integrity. Treat all products you get regardless of whether you are sent them or if you purchase them the same. Don't take money for reviewing something positively, you don't whole heartily believe in.

Would you add anything? What do you think?

Excuse how unfocused this is, I didn't realise until afterwards
Last weekend I took a trip to Blanchardstown Shopping centre, I found so many sales and offers it would have been a shame not to of taken advantage. One of my favourite places in the whole centre is Bradleys Pharmacy. They have a great selection of makeup including NYX, which I find very hard to get a hold of. They had an amazing sale when I went and I got a third off the real techniques Core Collection set, which I am insanely delighted with. They were supposed to be €28.99 but I got them for €19.42. As always, I wondered into boots and took a look at the makeup. I went and looked at the Aveeno range. Aveeno is something I adore because its once of the few brands I can use that won't send my skin into meltdown mode. I got this skin relief moisturiser for around €3.50, which is a steal! Finally I went to Pennys (primiark). I found these shoes which I will have to break it but are totally fab. For €7 you can't really complain can you?

Review : Sleek Brow Kit

Saturday, 7 February 2015

If you saw my last post, you'll see that I bought this not too long ago. Its the second lights shade in the range, which I think is a bit of a let down. The only lighter shade than this is one for blonde brows which is great but this was actually a tiny bit dark for me. I would have liked maybe half a shade lighter.

As the packaging, its very standard Sleek packaging. The only thing I find annoying is the tiny little brushes & tweezers. They're basically unusable because they are so small.

When I first used the used the wax, it took some getting used to because i'm so used to using powders. You need to have a very light hand when applying this or it can look very very dodgy. Once I had done the wax I set it with the powder which I actually quite liked.

Is this going to dramatically change the way I do my brows? definitely not. Do I hate it? no. Its just not spectacular. I would say its worth checking out if you're on the market for some budget brow stuff. If you're interested in my brow routine its here
