Summer Snapshots

Friday, 29 August 2014

Is it just me or has this summer gone by in a flash? I'm back in school ( AKA hell ) and I thought it would be nice to reflect back on the wonderful summer I had, however quick it went. I went to Spain at the same time as my best friend which was pretty fun, We had a gossip girl marathon, watched somme horror movies, went to the ultimate girls day out and numerous days' out shopping. I felt this summer went by to quick, is that just me? I've just started 5th year and I have such an imminent feeling of grown-upness? Just me idk?

What's your favourite thing you've done this summer?

10 facts about me #TeenBlogSeries

Tuesday, 26 August 2014

This project was started by anouska and Beth. I think its a great way to introduce new teenage beauty and fashion bloggers to each other and also a great way to stop bloggers block! If you want to join just check out either of their blogs!

Fact 1- I love dogs! I'm defiantly more of a dog person than a cat person, and I can't stand  those really annoying yippy small dogs either. Strictly a big dog person. My family have a fab golden retriever, who's actually white, called Harry ( Yes after Harry Potter ).

Fact 2- I hate overly peppy/happy people. I'm not saying I hate all happy people or begrudge anyone of happiness at all. I just hate those people, Girls in particular, that scream because they haven't seen their friend in two days or are insanely unnecessarily loud and happy at 9 am on a monday morning.

Fact 3- I love music. Despite the fact that I can't sing or play an instrument. I do own a guitar but have many failed attempts at trying to learn, we also had to learn the thin whistle in primary school but I was horrendous at that. I just love listening to music, finding new bands and going to concerts.

Fact 4- I live in the arsehole of no where in Ireland. When I say arsehole of no where I mean next door neighbours are a field of cows type of nowhere. I hate where i'm from so much and as soon as I have the money I'm gone travelling and I'll probably live in new york for a prolonged period of time.

Fact 5- I have an obsession with New York. I blame gossip girl for starting this obsession. I mean being from a very rural area I guess you can see my reasoning for being fascinated with big cities and new york in particular. I think the new york skyline is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Fact 6- I love Horror movies. My friends hate them, and hate me most of the time for making them watch them, but I love a good horror and the suspense. Just brilliant.

Fact 7- I'm generally a very honest person and I HATE being lied to. I am guilty of telling a little white lie every now and them but so is everybody. I just hate it when someone thinks you're better off being lied to rather than hurting you're feelings. I can't stand that I mean who wants to only know half a situation?

Fact 8- I love to read. I was so much more of a book worm when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure I read all 7 harry potter books in 6 weeks when I was 11. As i've gotten older I've grown out of it slightly, but when i'm on holidays or have a few days with nothing to do then I'll really get into it. My all time favourite book is Looking for Alaska by John Green.

Fact 9- I'm Short. I'm just nearly 5'4. I actually quite like my height and would kind of like to be a little smaller, is that weird?

Fact 10- I'm 16 and going into 5th year in secondary school (ew)

The ultimate girls day out 2014

Sunday, 24 August 2014

Yesterday Myself and my best friend ventured up to the RDS for the ultimate girls day out. We won tickets on the lovely Emma's blog. It was a great day! we laughed loads, got loads of free goodies, I got Shellac nails for €10, got an eyebrow makeover and had a style masterclass with Lisa Fitzpatirck.

We also sat front row for the first of four fashion shows throughout the day. There was some great fashion choices on show, and a fab leather jacket from M & S that I fell in love with.

Another fab thing about the day was the photo booth. It was €3 for a set of four pictures, and they had loads of fun props, probably one of my favourite aspects of the day! There was also a massive sweet stand where the man working behind the counter managed to sell Ciara €5 worth of fudge.
I had a wonderful day, and will probably go back next year! Have you gone?

Review: Gosh blush in 39 electric pink.

Wednesday, 20 August 2014

I was looking through my Blush collection earlier on and I found this, and Remembered I never did a review on it. This is some thing I bought a while back, I really liked the colour and I quite liked the idea of a bright pink blush.

At first glance I really liked the packaging but overtime it just gets grimy and dirty looking. The name  ' Electric pink' causes to you to think that it would be a really pigmented bright pink. Not the case at all.

When I swatched it I was disappointed to find that it was more of a rosy light pink colour, and not much like the colour in the pan. When you go to apply it to the cheek, it takes a good few swipes in the pan to get any pigmentation out of it. When applied to the cheek, it does give a nice flushed look, but it doesn't last very long which is a big downer.

Have you tried this? What did you think?

Style Steal: Kylie Jenner

Sunday, 17 August 2014

Kylie Jenner has recently become a lot more of a style queen, in my opinion. I loved this outfit because it's something I would wear, and its not way way out there like some of her looks. The top from miss selfridge is so nice and would work with so many different outfits, dressed up or down. The same goes for this skirt from mango, looks great with anything and works dressed up and down. These shoes are fab, and I'm sure the one Kylie has are probably Louis Vuitton's but we can't all afford those, and these shoes from NastyGal are a great alternative. I love the hat paired with this outfit too, great to mask a great hair day!

A competition entry *

Friday, 15 August 2014

During the week I was approached by Fanny Crown, who make incredibly fab evening dresses, to enter their competition to win one of their dresses. To enter I had to pick one of their dresses and show how I would style it if I won it. I picked this gorgeous red fishtail style dress. The only event I would have to wear this to would be my Debs, which are just a little over a year away. If I was going to style this dress for my debs, I think I would go down a 1950's and Jessica rabbit inspired route. If you didn't know i'm only 5'4 and I actually really my height, and since this dress is floor length I don't really think extraordinary high heels are a necessity, I think these cute court heels from Topshop are perfect. For my hair, I would french plait my hair off to one side and have really loose victoria's secret style waves with a glitzy clip and to extenuate that I'd wear some dangly glam earrings. For my makeup, I'd do some really dramatic smoked out eyes, really nice dewy skin and a more neutral lip, just because the dress is so bright I wouldn't do a dark lip to go along with it.

The people at Fanny Crown have been lovely enough to offer you guys a code ( MISSEMMAL14 )* for 15% off any dress on their website, which is valid until sept 30th 2014 ! So handy if you're looking for a debs or prom dress!

The code displayed was sent to me by fanny crown, however I am not affiliated with them.

Review: Wet N Wild pearlescent pink blush

Tuesday, 12 August 2014

When wet N wild first arrived in ireland I bought some things to try and this was one of them. The main reason I bought the Wet N Wild blush in pearlescent pink was because this was one of the most raved about items by other bloggers.

I have to say when I first tried this i was really disappointed. I couldn't get much pigmentation, from it. I found that it applied kind of patchy and didn't last that long either. With that I kind of wrote off as one of those over hyped products.
I decided to break this back out again when Karen ( of Lovely girly bits ) mentioned it in her product dupes video as a dupe for a NARS blush. She mentioned that it had a slight overspray and thats why it seems kind of shit straight away. I tried it again over the weekend and fell in love. Its comes off so pigmented and gives a gorgeous finish. This is also quite similar to the Sleek blush in vintage rose.
I'm delighted I've rediscover this blush again! Its brilliant as an everyday pop of colour on the cheeks.

Have you rediscovered any products lately?

Back to school makeup

Saturday, 9 August 2014

As much as I hate to admit it, the start of the next school year seems to be approaching really really fast. In my school the "Rule" is no makeup at all, but all of us girls still wear it and unless we're bright orange or its a bit over the top, we're generally let away with it. This is all I wear, because I always want to stay in bed for as long as humanly possible before I have to get up. I use the revlon colour stay foundation because its really high coverage and lasts all day, and I also use the collection concealer for the same reason. I use the healthy balance powder, not the best power I've ever used but I'll use it up. I'm also using the NYC city curl mascara, I've used this for years and I would have to say its my all time my favourite mascara. I've been liking using the Maybeline Brow drama, brow gel to keep my brows in place all day. If i'm feeling particularly fancy I'll use a little blush. The one I've been liking at the moment is the Pearlescent pink blush from wet N wild.

The Liebster awards!

Tuesday, 5 August 2014

I was nominated by the lovely Aoife Jane of Aoifejanebeauty. I love the idea behind this, which is basically to connect lesser know bloggers and also spread the word about each other. If you receive this award you have to:
  • You must link back to the person who nominated you.
  • You must answer the 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
  • After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers and give them 11 questions of your choice to answer. (Must have less than 200 followers)
  • You are not allowed to nominate the person who nominated you.
  • Make sure you let the nominee’s know that they have been nominated and provide a link to your post for them, so they are able to learn about it.

The questions-

1- Strong eyes and nude lip or strong lip and basic eyes?

This is sort of a difficult question. Can I say both or is that cheating? Because it's really depending on the day thats in it. If its just a lazy day and I don't really feel like doing any spectacular makeup wise, I'll just do a really neutral eye and a bold lip. But if I'm feeling particularly fancy, then I'll go for a strong eye and a slightly less bold lip. I really don't like nude lips on my self they make me look somewhat like a corpse.

2- Neat or Messy hair?
Messy all the way. I can't stand when my hair's too neat. I have to pull a piece out or scrunch it or something so its not too perfect.

3-  If you could only wear one designer for the rest of your life who would you choose?
I don't wear much designer personally. ( mainly because I can't afford it ). But from seeing their stuff in store and in photo's I do really like Alexander Mcqueen. What fab clothes they make. If I did have to pick one evening wear designer though, it would be Ziad Nakad. If you haven't laid eyes on any of his fab creations, I suggest you do so immediately.

4- Celebrity crush and why?
Michael Clifford. Have you seen him? Need I say more?

5- Favorite TV series/movie/book?
I have watched quite an abundance of TV shows in my time. If I had to pick my top three it would be : breaking bad, Dexter (seasons 1-6 it just got dumb as fuck after that ) and American horror story. My favourite book would be looking for alaska by John Green, I'm a massive fan of all of his work. and my favourite movie is a toss up between Into the wild and ten things I hate about you.

6- Wild night out or cosy night in?
Cosy night in 100 times over. I'm not really a crazy going out person if I'm honest.

7-  Who’s your ultimate style icon (and post a pic of your favorite look of theres)
I honestly don't have one singular style icon. I have so many different people I love so many different looks from. I honestly just couldn't choose one.

8- All white or all black outfit for a night out?
All black, all day every day

9- Most played song on your phone/ipod/mp3?
I'm pretty sure it'd be Everybody talks by The neon trees or Heaven knows by The pretty reckless.

10- What would be a ultimate festival lineup and why?

My ultimate festival line up would probably be ' The 1975, Kodaline, Haim, 5 seconds of summer and some other indie bands that I've never heard of. Because those bands are fab and I love discovering new music!

11- If you have an opportunity to create your own theme park (i.e. like Disneyland) what would it be like and where would it be?
Ideally I'd love it to be in new york city because that's just my dream like, most people have honestly no idea how badly I want to go there. They would all be adrenaline rush inducing massive badass roller coasters. That's my favourite thing about theme parks, and also I wouldn't make it super duper expensive because some theme parks are just crazy money to get into.

Brand Breakdown : Natural collection

Saturday, 2 August 2014

The natural collection is a brand I've really liked for a long time. Its great quality and really cheap, so its really great for anyone starting out. These are some of their products I've tried and really liked.

The natural collection lipsticks are some of my favourites formula wise. They're really moisturising, their only downfall is that they only last for about 2 hours, but they're like €3 each so you can't really complain for that price. I have three shades Crimson, Raspberry and Marshmallow.  For some reason my swatches showed these up as basically the same colour, but they are three great shades.
L-R Crimson, raspberry and Marshmallow

If you guys have been reading my blog for any length of time, you'll know that one of my favourite liquid liners is the Natural collection one. Its really black and lasts all day. Its quite easy to use too so a great one if you're just starting out.
My next item is their Mascara in clear. I used this as a brow gel for ages, and I loved it. It held my brows in place all day and it just worked brilliantly. I would defiantly recommend it if you're on a budget.

My last items are the Pencil liners, these are really so good. My personal favourites are the brown and the white. I definitely prefer using a brown liner on my water line than black, I find that black just looks way too harsh on me. These liners are really great and really soft. They don't budge all day either.

Have you tried anything from this brand? Did you like it?
